Rider Penalty Guidelines for Whip Rule breaches

To be used as a guide only with all circumstances of the breach to be considered, penalties to remain at the discretion of the Stewards.

Last 100 metres (AR137A (3&4) (Using the whip on horses not in contention)

Offence    Range of Penalties
1st Reprimand - $300
2nd $200 - $500
3rd $300 - Suspension up to one week

 

400-100 metres Successive strokes within the 5 permitted strokes AR137A(5)(a)(i)

Offence    2-3 Successive Strokes    4-5 Successive Strokes
1st Reprimand $200
2nd Reprimand $400
3rd $200 Suspension up to one week
4th $400 Fine of $500 plus Suspension up to one week
5th $600 Suspension up to two weeks

 

400-100 Metres Additional Strokes in excess of 5 strokes AR137(A)(5)(a)(ii)

Offence    1-2    3-4    5 Plus
1st Reprimand $400 Suspension up to one week
2nd $200 $600 $500 plus Suspension up to one week
3rd $400 Suspension up to one week Suspension up to two weeks
4th $600 $600 plus Suspension of up to one week Suspension up to three weeks and/or percentage of Prizemoney
5th Suspension up to one week $600 plus Suspension up to two weeks Suspension up to one month plus percentage of Prizemoney

 

  • As a deterrent breaches in Group and Feature races may attract a heavier penalty
  • A rider's record refreshes after 400 rides or 12 calendar months
  • Percentage of Prize money means the riders percentage is expressed as a maximum figure for penalty.
