Champion Jockeys Join Forces with Australia's Elite Athletes

The Australia Athletes’ Alliance (AAA) – the peak body for Australia’s elite professional athletes – today announced that the Australian Jockeys’ Association (AJA) is the latest representative body to join forces with the AAA.

Streamlined Jockeys' Licences

The Australian Racing Board and the Australian Jockeys Association announce the progress of a working party established to streamline the licensing of jockeys who ride in more than one State or Territory.

At the Australian Racing Board’s meeting held on 18th March, 2010 the Board considered a proposal from the Australian Jockeys’ Association concerning the creation of a national licence for jockeys.

AJA appoints a National Jockeys' Trust fundraising, event promotion and administration manager

The Australian Jockeys' Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Louise Betts as the new National Jockeys’ Trust Fundraising, Event Promotion and Administration Manager.

Louise has a wealth of talent and experience in the marketing and promotions business area – a skill set well suited to deal with the challenge of raising additional funding while dealing with jockeys and their families who have suffered injury and loss in the racing industry.

Jockeys welcome whip changes

Jockeys across the country have welcomed the Australian Racing Board's decision to overhaul the whip rules, saying the move is a win for common sense in the industry. 
 
The Australian Racing Board today announced a change to the rules in the last 100 metres of the race following meetings with representatives of the Australian Jockeys' Association over the past days.

The current rules governing the use of the whip are putting the safety of the country’s jockeys at risk, the Australian Jockeys’ Association said today.

The effect of these changes will be to change forever the role of the whip in Australian racing. This follows lengthy consultation both within the industry and with the public.
